Every year, I get the honor of nominating the best and brightest students from across North Missouri to attend our nation’s military academies. A congressional nomination is one of the chief ways a student can get selected to attend one of these prestigious institutions. Getting there isn’t easy and requires an incredible amount of work. Students who even pursue a nomination, much less receive one, are most likely thinking and doing things as students that wouldn’t even occur to a lot of folks, much less a high schooler. They are impressive.
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year. It gives us a dedicated moment to pause and reflect on the many blessings we’ve been given in life. That’s something we don’t seem to do very often or very well anymore. In our fast-paced world, constantly tethered to technology, it’s hard to get a moment of focus. We would do well to take a breath, set the phone down and be grateful.
Last month, local law enforcement in Clinton County reportedly pulled over two Venezuelan nationals during a routine traffic stop. These illegal immigrants were reported to be members of the violent Tren de Aragua gang. The kicker? Local law enforcement was reportedly directed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel to let them go.
We expect the federal government to be ready to help when disaster strikes. After all, that's why the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) exists. While we’ve seen the bureaucracy at FEMA get in the way in the past, they’ve managed to sink to a new low.
On November 11th, we celebrate all the men and women who have bravely served our country, both during times of war and peace. Their sacrifices are far greater than many will ever make. That’s why we commit to fulfilling our promises to them—while they serve and after they come home.
What part of illegal immigration do some people not understand? It's ILLEGAL—and it's illegal for good reason.
America is a nation of laws. We can't be a nation of laws if we don't have a secure border, and when those laws aren't enforced, the consequences are severe.
Ronald Reagan once said, "We maintain peace through our strength; weakness only invites aggression." This is an important lesson—and one we're all re-learning the hard way thanks to the weakness of the Biden-Harris Administration.
When they pulled out of Afghanistan without any plan to protect our troops or our allies, they didn't just cost thirteen brave young servicemembers their lives; they sent a clear message to all our adversaries: we are weak.
Over the last four years, things have spiraled out of control. Look no further than the grocery store. I’ve heard from folks who didn’t used to worry about the cost of groceries, but suddenly, they’re having to think twice about what they put in the cart.
Compared to 2021, Americans are now spending $1,095 more every month just on the necessities. The cost of gas, groceries, and everything else has gone through the roof. Meanwhile, paychecks aren’t keeping up with inflation. In fact, real wages are lower now than they were 3 years ago.
It's been said that everyone "needs a farmer every day, three times a day." Otherwise, you might get a little hungry.
That's why getting a Farm Bill done isn't just important for someone who is busy shelling corn, cutting beans, or sorting cattle right now; it's important for everyone who wants to eat dinner tonight.
The Buck O'Neil Bridge is a vital link connecting the Northland to downtown Kansas City. However, the story of its replacement and the ribbon-cutting on the new bridge is good news for folks all across North Missouri. This bridge connects Northlanders and Missourians in northwest Missouri to doctors, hospitals, workplaces, markets, among many other places.
