I was honored to attend another State of the Union address this week. I was pleased to see that President Trump was finally allowed to give the address and I was even more pleased with what he had to say.
The fact is, our economy is shattering records left and right with job growth and wages up, unemployment down and Americans finally putting more money in their pockets. The current economic strength of America is due to our pro-growth policies. Undoubtedly, raising taxes and increasing regulations would be a step in the wrong direction.
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Sam Graves (MO-06) released the following statement after President Donald J. Trump's State of the Union address:
"The President made it clear tonight that America is great because of the pro-growth policies we've implemented. Job creation is up, unemployment is at its lowest in nearly 50 years and Americans are seeing more money in their pockets. However, it's clear that we need to work together to make our country even greater.
On May 8, 1945, Winston Churchill announced that the Allies had secured Victory in Europe. Later that year, Japan would finally surrender, and World War II would end. It's hard to believe but in 2020, we will mark the 75th Anniversary of the end of the war.
Known as the "Greatest Generation," our World War II veterans made incredible sacrifices and did so without expecting any honor in return. Yet, it is so critical that we continue to honor and thank them along with their families as well as those who made great contributions to the war effort here at home.
There was a time in America when one of the only methods of communication was by mail. Since 1912, the United States Postal Service (USPS) has served as a lifeline for Americans, specifically in rural areas.
With the advent of the internet, things have changed. We can communicate wherever we are with the click of a button. Some say that means the Postal Service should reduce services like six-day delivery.
I disagree.
There is no greater gift than life itself.
I am reminded of that with my own children and my 1-year old grandson. They are all the light of my life and I can't fathom it without them.
It's been 46 years since the Supreme Court decided that the right to life only existed once a child was born. Many strides have been made towards reversing this disastrous decision and, at the very least, reducing the consequences of it. The good news is that the number of abortions performed continues to fall. Yet, it is still legal and the fight to end abortion continues every single day.

It's a new and a new Congress. Last week, I was sworn in for another term as the Congressman for Missouri's 6th District. It is an absolute honor to represent North Missouri and one that I don't take lightly.
We have a lot of work ahead of us.
The first order of business is to ensure that we secure our border and build the wall. The humanitarian and national security crisis at our southern border is only getting worse. Without a secure border, illegal immigration, gang violence, crime, drugs, and human trafficking will continue unimpeded.

Farmers and rural landowners in North Missouri received several pieces of good news last week.
President Trump's EPA announced that the disastrous "Waters of the United States" rule, or WOTUS, is no more and a new Clean Water Rule will replace it.
Washington, DC. – Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed North Missouri Congressman Sam Graves', (MO-06), bill to name the United States Post Office in Bevier, MO after Navy Special Warfare Operator 2nd Class Adam Olin Smith, a fallen Navy SEAL originally from Macon County. Smith died in 2010 as the result of a helicopter crash in Afghanistan during combat operations.
Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Sam Graves, (MO06), joined the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator, Andrew Wheeler and members of the Trump Administration for the signing of the new definition of the "Waters of the U.S." (WOTUS) rule. Graves released the following statement:
"I am thrilled that the Trump Administration has listened to the people and kept their promise to get rid of WOTUS," said Graves. "You can have a thriving rural economy and clean water. This rule accomplishes that."
Washington, DC – Today, North Missouri Congressman Sam Graves, (MO-06), incoming Ranking Member for the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, announced that the Buck O'Neil Bridge has received a Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Transportation Discretionary Grant, or BUILD grant.
The Buck O'Neil Bridge project will receive a BUILD grant for $25 million.
