Life is a Precious Gift

There is no greater gift than life itself.

I am reminded of that with my own children and my 1-year old grandson. They are all the light of my life and I can't fathom it without them.

It's been 46 years since the Supreme Court decided that the right to life only existed once a child was born. Many strides have been made towards reversing this disastrous decision and, at the very least, reducing the consequences of it. The good news is that the number of abortions performed continues to fall. Yet, it is still legal and the fight to end abortion continues every single day.

Every year, thousands of Americans who support life, including many from North Missouri, come to the nation's Capital to celebrate and promote the sanctity of life. I am proud to stand for life in Congress and I'm proud to stand with my constituents and their friends as they make their voice heard again this year.

Unfortunately, liberals in Congress wasted no time pushing to expand abortion. One of the first things they did this year was to put forward a bill that would have repealed the ban on funding for organizations that promote abortions overseas. Of course, I voted against that measure and I'm proud that Republicans were able to put that ban in place while we were in the majority. After all, why should taxpayers foot the bill to promote abortions?

In fact, a majority of Americans oppose federal funding of abortions which is why it's critical that we continue to ensure that it doesn't happen. Additionally, Congress must continue to defend life on all fronts which is why many common-sense pieces of pro-life legislation have already been introduced. Some of these include outlawing abortions when a baby in the womb can feel pain or when a fetal heartbeat is detectable, defunding Planned Parenthood and declaring that life begins at conception. Furthermore, I'm glad that we have a President and now a Supreme Court that is far more favorable towards protecting life than we've seen in a generation.

Life is a precious gift. We see countless reminders of that in our daily lives. Protecting life is one of the most important things I do in Congress and I pledge to continue fighting for the sanctity of life every opportunity I get.
