The first step to making our federal government more effective and more efficient is to bring it closer to the people. The less our government is centralized in Washington, the better it can serve the taxpayers.
With that in mind, Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced last week that two agencies critical to our farm economy would be moving closer to the farmers they serve. Even better, the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) and the Economic Research Service (ERS) are expected to locate in the Kansas City region later this year.
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Sam Graves (MO-06) applauded the United States Department of Agriculture's announcement today that they are proposing a relocation of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) and the Economic Research Service (ERS) from Washington, D.C. to Kansas City.
Graves advocated strongly for the move to Kansas City after it was announced that USDA was searching for a new location for the agencies.

WASHINGTON D.C. — Today, President Donald Trump approved a major disaster declaration for Atchison, Holt, Andrew, Buchanan, Platte, Carroll and Chariton counties in the 6th Congressional District to aid in flood recovery efforts. The approval is for public assistance, which will help with emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities. A request for individual assistance is still under review.
