Graves now an elder in state's U.S. House delegation

After Sam Graves took his oath for the first time in the U.S. House, he had a trio of experienced hands in the Missouri delegation to guide him past the barriers and customs of federal lawmaking.
Reps. Roy Blunt, Kenny Hulshof and Jo Ann Emerson, all Republican colleagues, had a collective 12 years of House service and a willingness to steward the new congressman.
WASHINGTON, D.C.– U.S. Congressman Sam Graves (MO-06) today welcomed Jason Smith, the newly elected Congressman from Missouri's Eighth District, by introducing him to the full House of Representatives in a floor speech. Graves is the dean of Missouri's Republican House members. His remarks came moments after Congressman Smith was sworn in by House Speaker John Boehner. Below are Congressman Graves' remarks, as prepared for delivery:

House approves Veterans Affairs appropriations bill with broad bipartisan support
As Chairman of the House Small Business Committee, I frequently hear about ill-advised or overly burdensome Federal regulations, both those that are on the books and those in the pipeline. One of the worst offenders when it comes to such regulations is the Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA – and they're back at it again.
Urges Obama Administration to forego signing treaty
Say you're the President of the United States, and you're given the opportunity to approve a project that will create over 42,000 jobs and reduce our dependence on Middle Eastern oil. The State Department has completed an extensive environmental review of the project, concluding that it is the "preferred alternative" among all possible options and that there would be limited environmental impact. What would you do? I bet that, like most people you would say let's move forward with it.
WASHINGTON, D.C.– U.S. Congressman Sam Graves (MO-06) today voted to strengthen the nation's student loan programs. With Graves' support, the House passed the Smarter Solutions for Students Act (H.R. 1911), which would move all Federal student loans, minus Perkins loans, to a market-based interest rate. This would alleviate the need for Congress to act each year when it comes to determining interest rates.
WASHINGTON, D.C.– Less than a week before the nation celebrates Memorial Day, the U.S. House of Representatives today passed several measures aimed at assisting America's veterans. Congressman Sam Graves (R-MO) supported all three bills.
