(Washington, D.C) U.S. Congressman Sam Graves today introduced legislation that would elevate flood control as the top priority for the management of the Missouri River and delete fish and wildlife as an authorized purpose.

"We should not give the Piping Plover or the Least Tern the same weight as people," said Graves. "We need to make it crystal clear that the number one priority is flood control. The damage of this past summer is something that no one wants to repeat."

Washington, D.C. - Western Iowa Congressman Steve King announced today that he has introduced legislation to prevent future incidents of severe downstream flooding along the Missouri River. King's legislation, H.R. 2942, requires the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to revise the Missouri River Master Manual to increase the total amount of storage space within the Missouri River Reservoir System that is allocated for flood control.

This week we will mark the ten-year anniversary of September 11th. Many of us remember exactly where we were on that day when we heard the terrible news. Like all Americans, I was horrified as I watched television coverage of commercial airliners being turned into missiles and flown into the World Trade Center.
