WASHINGTON— House Small Business Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO) today introduced legislation that will help create jobs by providing more contracting opportunities for small firms and reforming small business federal contracting policy.
WASHINGTON, D.C. –U.S. Rep. Sam Graves and U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) led a successful effort to get language clarifying congressional intent regarding the Agriculture Hours-of-Service (AgHOS) regulations written into the Highway Bill.
The language would clarify that Agriculture Hours of Service exemptions apply to all movements of critical farm supplies: from source to retail, source to farm and retail to farm. The exemption is limited to within a 150 air mile radius from the source of the commodities or the distribution point for the farm supplies.
Last week the President laid out his plans in the annual State of the Union address. In the coming weeks, the President will submit a budget for the year and Congress will begin to debate it. Budgets are about priorities and this is where the hard work of balancing our nation's budget should begin.
Washington has never been particularly good at sticking to its budget. As author William Feather said, "a budget tells us what we can't afford, but it doesn't keep us from buying it." In fact, the federal government has run a budget deficit in 47 of the last 52 years.

On the one hand, the unemployment rate dropped to 8.5%, the lowest since February 2009. The economy added 200,000 jobs which were more than expected. Those are positive numbers that seem to indicate our economy is recovering.
