Transportation Committee Hearing Sets the Stage for Long Term Highway Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Sam Graves, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, released the following statement after Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx appeared before the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. This was the Committees first hearing of the year on the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill, also referred to as the Highway Bill.
"As representative for the people of north Missouri, a state with over 130,000 highway miles and over 24,000 bridges to maintain, a long-term highway bill is top priority," said Rep. Graves. "I appreciate Secretary Foxx testifying before our committee and am confident that meeting America's transportation needs is a place where the Administration and Congress can find common ground," he continued.
"There is no such thing as Republican roads or Democrat roads – transportation is a bipartisan issue with many needs that must be addressed. We have a tremendous opportunity to do so by securing a long-term highway bill that improves our nation's highway system, allows U.S. businesses to remain competitive, and creates jobs in Missouri and across the country."
