Sam Graves Issues Statement in Response to Hearing on the Future of Kansas City Airport
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Sam Graves issued the following statement in response to Tuesday's city council hearing on the future of Kansas City Airport. The KC Aviation Department continued its push for a complete overhaul of the airport, which would result in construction of a new, single terminal.
"Kansas City Airport is convenient, safe, and affordable, and I'm worried this plan would jeopardize all of that," Rep. Graves said. "I have been consistently opposed to a single terminal plan, particularly when users rank our airport as one of the most convenient in the country."
"I am also struggling to believe that renovating the current terminals would be more expensive than building a new, single terminal from scratch," Rep. Graves continued. "There is obviously a need for improvements at a 40-year-old airport, and I am glad the city is having those discussions, but I have yet to hear details that would make me think this proposal is the right one."
A final, more detailed recommendation from the city is expected sometime early next year. Kansas City residents will be given the opportunity to vote on approval of any major airport improvements.
