Sam Graves Issues Statement on City Council Hearing on the Future of KCI

April 26, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Sam Graves issued the following statement after the KC City Council today was presented with an official proposal for rebuilding Kansas City International Airport. Kansas City voters could be asked to weigh in on the proposal to replace KCI with a $1.25 billion, single-terminal airport at the ballot box as early as this August.

"Same story, different day. The KC City Council insists on pushing a plan that will ruin everything people like about KCI," Rep. Graves said. "Distances to gates would double, the convenience of the current security process would be gone, and passengers would be on the hook for price increases if ambitious estimates for growth at KCI do not materialize. All in all, today's proposal amounts to an expensive, complicated plan that I still cannot support."
