Sam Graves Calls on Governor Nixon to Reject Syrian Refugees

November 17, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Sam Graves today joined members of Missouri's Republican Congressional delegation in calling on Governor Jay Nixon to reject the relocation of Syrian refugees to Missouri. A copy of the letter is attached to this release.

"In the wake of Friday's heartbreaking attacks in Paris, it is clear that a real and present threat exists in the free flow of refugees from Syria to outside countries," Rep. Graves said. "It is unfortunate that terrorists have used the situation in Syria to harbor a new generation of extremism, but the result is that it would be dangerous and unwise to blindly allow Syrian refugees into the United States. I have doubts that any screening process could guarantee the safety of every American citizen, but I urge Governor Nixon to oppose the relocation of Syrian refugees to Missouri until the Obama administration can prove that those admitted into this country pose no threat to national security."
