Sam Graves Authors Legislation Protecting the Second Amendment

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Sam Graves today introduced legislation blocking state and local governments from issuing taxes that double as new gun control laws. The Stop Taxing the 2^nd Amendment Act will prevent a practice that has become more popular over the last few years, with multiple states proposing taxes on bullets and other firearm accessories as a way to bypass the 2^nd Amendment and prevent people from buying guns.

"Anti-gun politicians will stop at nothing to push their unconstitutional agenda on the American people," Rep. Graves said. "They're willing to use terrorist attacks and national tragedies as an excuse to advance that agenda, and now states and local governments are threatening to pass new taxes that will prevent people from buying and owning guns. My bill will end that threat, blocking local lawmakers from using taxes or fees as a way to limit the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding American citizens."

The Stop Taxing the 2^nd Amendment Act will pre-empt any current or future taxes specifically targeted for guns and ammunition. Many states and localities are attempting to impose these costly taxes, which could put basic self-defense tools and a constitutional right out of financial reach for many Americans.
