House Transportation Committee Hears from Missouri River Stakeholder during Water Resources Hearing
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Earlier this week, the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee of the House Transportation Committee heard from a variety of stakeholders on the challenges they face. Entitled, “Proposals for a Water Resources Development Act of 2024: Stakeholder Priorities,” Transportation Committee Chairman Sam Graves (MO-06) invited Shane Kinne, Executive Director of the Coalition to Protect Missouri River to testify on issues facing Missouri River stakeholders specifically.
"I greatly appreciate Shane’s willingness to shed light on Missouri River issues and speak to the importance of our inland waterways,” said Graves, “As we work to pass another water resources bill, it’s critical that voices along our rivers are represented so we can ensure that we continue to place a focus on flood control and navigation issues.”

In his testimony, Kinne focused on the important work that has taken place on the Missouri River post-2019 flooding, as a result of WRDA 2020 and 2022. He also emphasized the importance of passing another Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) in 2024.
“We are in a very important time period for the Missouri River. While there are challenges, there is much momentum, both for flood control as well as navigation on the Missouri River. Much of this is due to recently passed WRDA bills that authorized important, generational projects and studies that, if properly executed, will improve the lives of those that live and work in the lower Missouri River basin. In order for us to continue to capture and capitalize on that momentum, it is critical that Congress continues to pass WRDA bills consistently and on time,” Kinne said in his opening statement.
