Graves Pushes Water Resources Bill Through Transportation Committee
Secures Funding for Missouri, Mississippi River Management in WRDA 2016
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Sam Graves today helped advance the Water Resources Development Act of 2016 (WRDA) through the House Transportation Committee. Graves, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, worked to preserve critical funding for Missouri River levees and the Upper Mississippi River Comprehensive Plan in the bill.
"Two of America's major rivers run through North Missouri and the district I represent in Congress," Rep. Graves said. "These rivers help support thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in agriculture exports, but flooding and outdated waterway infrastructure could jeopardize all of that. I'm glad to see the WRDA bill clear the Transportation Committee with specific policies to fund levee projects, protect homes and businesses, and support Missouri's agriculture industry."
Earlier this year, Graves sent a letter to House leadership urging them to include funding for projects specific to North Missouri in this year's WRDA bill. H.R. 5303 passed the committee unanimously and will come before the House for a vote in the coming weeks.
