Graves Presses for Federal Disaster Declaration
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Sam Graves (MO-06) joined Senators Eric Schmitt and Josh Hawley, along with Representatives Emanuel Cleaver, Ann Wagner, Blaine Luetkemeyer, Jason Smith, Mark Alford, Eric Burlison and Cori Bush, in writing a letter in support of Governor Mike Parson’s recent request for a Disaster Declaration. The Declaration request is in response to severe storms and flooding from July 29 to August 14, 2023 in 33 Missouri counties, including Adair, Clark, Gentry, Grundy,Knox, Scotland, Shelby, and Worth Countiesin North Missouri.
“Many communities in North Missouri have been hit with severe storms over the last month. The town of Baring was devastated by a tornado. The folks there are resilient though and many have come together to get things going again. We need a disaster declaration to help them, and many others, in their recovery efforts,” said Graves.
The EF-2 tornado, which occurred on August 4th, destroyed homes, businesses, the fire station and the Post Office in Baring. Graves recently called on the United States Postal Service to develop a plan to fully restore the Post Office in Baring.
