Graves Issues Statement on Newest KCI Renovation Proposal

January 20, 2016

Council Members Offers Alternative to $1 billion plan

KANSAS CITY, MO – U.S. Representative Sam Graves gave the following statement in response to the KCI renovation proposal released this morning. A team led by a Kansas City architecture firm and backed by members of the City Council offered an alternative to the KC Aviation Department's original proposal to restructure Kansas City International Airport into a single terminal at a cost of over $1 billion.

"I am encouraged to see a new proposal for KCI, but it's hard to believe that any alternative will get a fair shake from the Kansas City Aviation Department," Rep. Graves said. "Department leadership has made its agenda to replace KCI with a new, billion dollar terminal clear, despite objections from people across the Kansas City area. Regardless, this shows that there are other options, and it is progress to see a plan that is more cost effective and that also takes steps to maintain the convenience that KCI's customers value."
