Graves Issues Statement on Extension of Federal Highway Programs

July 15, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Sam Graves issued the following statement after the House passed an extension of federal surface transportation programs through December 18. Graves is the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, which has jurisdiction over the reauthorization of the federal Highway Bill.

"State and local governments need to be able to plan for highway projects with confidence," Rep. Graves said. "They need certainty not just for the next five or six months, but for the next five or six years."

"We have a tremendous opportunity to pass a long-term reauthorization that will improve, rebuild, and modernize our Nation's transportation system," Rep. Graves continued. "This vote will enable us to continue our bipartisan efforts toward a long-term Highway bill, which we hope to complete by the end of the year."
