Graves, House Ag Committee Republican Leader Thompson Hold WOTUS Roundtable in Platte County

June 30, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Republican Leader Sam Graves (MO-06) joined the Republican Leader of the House Agriculture Committee Glenn “GT” Thompson (PA-15) and Missouri Farm Bureau for a roundtable with local farmers on the Biden Administration’s proposed “waters of the United States” (WOTUS) rule at the Richardson Family Farm near Camden Point, Missouri.

“These attempts to redefine navigable waters of the United States to include practically every dry ditch and puddle in this country have gone on for far too long,” Graves said. “Farmers, ranchers, and landowners need a clear definition that protects our water resources and private property rights. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration is trying to drag us back to an Obama-era definition that would require farmers to get a permission slip from the government every time we want to do anything with our land. It’s wrong and we’re going to do everything we can to stop this continued overreach.”

“The looming threat to redefine Waters of the United States plunges farmers, ranchers, and landowners back into a red tape nightmare,” said Thompson. “I’m grateful to Republican Leader Graves for the invitation to hear directly from farmers in his district about the devastating impact this would have. Every voice matters in fighting back against President Biden’s harmful regulatory regime.”

Graves and Thompson, along with 199 of their colleagues, sent an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to limit the definition of “waters of the United States” under the Clean Water Act while considering the case Sackett v. EPA this fall. You can view a comprehensive list of all the actions Congressman Graves has taken to push back on the Biden Administration’s attempted WOTUS overreach as Republican Leader of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee here.
