Graves Hosts FAST Act Roundtable
Highway Chairman Leads Discussion on Implementation of Newest Transportation Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Sam Graves, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, on Wednesday hosted a roundtable on implementation of the FAST Act. The discussion specifically focused on regulatory reforms that Graves wrote into the newest Highway Bill, which was signed into law last December.
Missouri now stands to receive $1 billion per year to spend on roads, bridges, and new transportation infrastructure. That's the most funding the state has ever received for transportation projects.
"The new Highway Bill gives Missouri certainty to plan for some much-needed road and bridge construction projects, knowing the money will be there for them today and five years from now," Rep. Graves said. "But just as important are the reforms we included to make government smarter and simpler, while still keeping people safe on highways across America. Now it is Congress' responsibility to make sure the Obama Administration is properly implementing the law."
Todd Spencer, executive VP of Independence-based OOIDA, was among the transportation industry representatives invited to speak at Graves' roundtable. Conversation centered around implementing the FAST Act's regulatory reforms, which are meant to preserve safety without placing undue burdens on business or kill jobs. Pictures from the roundtable are included with this release.
