Graves Helps Introduce Resolution Honoring America's Nurses

May 12, 2015

Washington, D.C.– U.S. Representative Sam Graves today helped introduce a resolution honoring America's nurses. Each year, the week of May 6 through May 12 marks National Nurses Week, a chance to celebrate the 3.1 million registered nurses in the United States.

"Nurses provide an essential, life-saving service to patients across the country," Rep. Graves said. "However, these dedicated professionals are even more critical in in rural communities like those across North Missouri," Rep. Graves continued. "National Nurses Week is the perfect time to celebrate these hardworking men and women and to honor their tremendous contributions to our communities."

Earlier this year, Graves introduced the Improving Veterans Access to Quality Care Act in the House of Representatives. The legislation is designed to simultaneously address the doctor shortages and high unemployment levels facing veterans, and also to increase veteran access to America's nurses.

The Improving Veterans Access to Quality Care Act allows Advanced Registered Nurses to care for veterans at VA hospitals in towns where there are not enough doctors. Unfortunately, in some places across Missouri and rural America, senior-aged veterans are forced to drive upwards of 2 hours away from home just to get the care they need.
