Graves Condemns Administration's Plan to Pay Illegal Immigrants $450,000
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Sam Graves (MO-06) joined 43 of his Republican colleagues in writing U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra, and Attorney General Merrick Garland condemning the Administration’s plan to offer $450,000 payments to some illegal immigrants for “lasting psychological drama” they encountered while illegally entering our country. For perspective, the median household income in America is less than 1/6th of that amount at $68,703. The maximum insurance payment available to the next of kin of a servicemember killed in action is just $400,000.
“These half-million-dollar payments are a slap in the face to our fallen heroes and hardworking American families.” Graves said. “We shouldn’t be rewarding illegal immigrants who break the law and encouraging more illegal immigration in the midst of a record-setting border crisis. I’m calling on the Administration to immediately drop this terrible plan.”
