Graves Casts Votes Opposing Iran Nuclear Deal, Upholding Economic Sanctions
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Sam Graves today voted against the Obama Administration's nuclear agreement with Iran. Rep. Graves, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, also voted to uphold the economic sanctions currently in place against the Iranian government.
"Iran is the world's largest sponsor of terrorism, and it has shown in the past that it cannot be trusted," Rep. Graves said. "As such, a nuclear Iran would pose a significant threat to the United States, Israel, and to our allies in Europe."
"Additionally, the sanctions currently in place have been widely successful when considering their impact on the Iranian economy, and it is simply the wrong time to walk away from them," Rep. Graves continued. "I will oppose any deal that offers concessions to Iran and puts them on a path to becoming a nuclear nation. I encourage the President to return to the negotiating table to find an agreement that will assure global stability, not jeopardize it."
In addition to voting against the measure approving the Iran agreement as it is currently constructed (H.R. 3461), Graves also supported legislation preventing the Obama administration from providing sanctions relief to Iran (H.R. 3460). Economic sanctions remain the strongest leverage the U.S. has in forcing Iran to dismantle its nuclear program and end its support of terrorism around the world.
