Graves Announces New Federal Aviation Workforce Development Grant Programs

January 26, 2021

Washington, DC – Congressman Sam Graves (MO-06) announced that the application period has opened for two different Aviation Workforce Development Grant programs that he helped create: the Aircraft Pilots Workforce Development Grant program and Aviation Maintenance Technical Workers Workforce Development Grant program.

"These new grant programs are critical for training the next generation of pilots and aviation maintenance technical workers," said Graves. "Our aviation workforce is aging at the same time as more and more young Americans are looking for quality technical education opportunities to enter the workforce faster and secure rewarding, good-paying jobs. These programs help our schools, colleges and technical education centers provide just that, right here in North Missouri."

Graves, a pilot himself, was able to get the new programs created in the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018. Graves subsequently pushed for funding for the programs and they were fully funded for FY2020.

These grant programs are open to a wide array of high schools, higher education institutions, local government entities, and unions to help create and deliver a curriculum designed to provide students with a meaningful aviation education.

Eligible entities can learn more about the Aviation Workforce Development Grants here. Applicants can submit applications for grants ranging from $25,000 to $500,000 through www.grants.gov through March 22, 2021.
