Graves Statement on House Passage of Disaster Relief Bill

June 3, 2019

WASHINGTON D.C. —Representative Sam Graves (MO-06) released the following statement after voting in favor of the disaster relief package which passed the House this evening.

"This year's flooding has affected just about everyone in North Missouri—from Craig to Clarksville, Brunswick to LaGrange, to Levasy and everywhere in between. We've all felt the pain as floodwaters have overtopped or punched through levees, inundating homes, businesses, and farms. That's why I voted in favor of the original disaster relief package last month. Since then, the situation has gotten even worse. Today, many folks across North Missouri are still fighting hard to hold back the floodwaters. I'm glad we passed this final disaster relief bill so folks can get the assistance they need to rebuild and recover."

The relief package, which passed the Senate on May 23rd, now goes to President Trump. The bill allows USDA to cover on-farm stored grain lost to flooding, an issue facing many farmers in North Missouri. It allocates $3 billion to agriculture programs for crop and livestock losses, in addition to $558 million for farmland rehabilitation. The bill also includes money to repair damaged flood control projects as well as repair roads damaged in recent flooding.
