This week I was honored to attend President Donald Trump's first State of the Union address to the nation. Every day I'm able to serve Missouri is a blessing and I am committed to helping North Missourians and Americans across the country lead productive and fulfilling lives.

For three days over this past weekend, the federal government was shut down. You probably found yourself scratching your head as to why such a drastic step was taken. Many, including myself, were left infuriated and asking ourselves, "what was the purpose?"
The answer is simple if we look at the facts.
On the 45th anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion in America, thousands of pro-life Americans will march in Washington, DC during the annual March for Life rally.
The theme of this year's march is "Love Saves Lives." Truer words were never spoken. It can only be love that compels a mother, no matter what the odds, to strive for a better life for her child. It can only be love that gives countless couples without children the desire to adopt these children and devote their lives to them.
From the authorization of the National Road in 1806 to the expansive interstate system we use today, America's infrastructure has always played a deciding role in the success of our nation.
That is why a top priority in 2018 must be hammering out a comprehensive infrastructure package that will help provide a foundation for our country to continue to grow and thrive for years to come.

The beginning of every New Year is a good time to look forward and set goals for the future. However, it's also a great time to reflect on the accomplishments of the previous year.
As a child, all I ever wanted for Christmas was a model airplane. Now that I'm a little older, I'd settle for a nice pair of socks and less taxes. While I'm unable to deliver on the socks, I'm pleased to say that Americans will receive a tax cut that will put more money in your pocket.
This week, I voted to send President Trump the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, a comprehensive tax reform plan that will cut taxes across the board for Missourians. I voted for this bill because it puts more money in your pocket, creates economic growth, and repeals parts of Obamacare.

The Preamble to our Constitution tasks Congress with the job of providing for our common defense. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I believe that entails ensuring that our nation's men and women in the Armed Forces are well-equipped and well-trained for the difficult task that we entrust them with.
As Missourians, we're fortunate to have strong concealed carry laws that help to support our 2nd Amendment rights. Currently, Missouri has agreements with 36 other states recognizing our concealed carry permits and by extension, the right to protect ourselves and our families.

One of the many reasons I am thankful to be your Representative in Congress is that it gives me the opportunity to travel throughout our great state and meet with Missourians from all walks of life.
