Thanksgiving is a Time to Count Blessings

There are reminders everywhere in Missouri that fall is beginning to wind down. Deer season has begun in earnest. High school football playoffs are reaching their pinnacle. The harvest has mostly been reaped. As we prepare for another winter in Northwest Missouri, it is time to give thanks.

Throughout the year it seems like we are constantly bombarded with bad news. Yet for all of our problems, we still live in the freest, most prosperous country on earth. It's a country with an entrepreneurial streak and a can do spirit that has always helped us overcome tough times. I have no doubt that Americans will pull ourselves up by our boot straps and return our nation to prosperity yet again.

We are also blessed by young men and women who put on a uniform everyday to protect our freedoms. They are serving our country at home and abroad. In this holiday season, I would ask that you remind them that we miss them and appreciate their sacrifice for our country.

While each family has its own unique gifts to be thankful for, Americans can be thankful that they still live in the land that produces heroes and opportunities. We must never forget that this great country we live in is both a blessing and a responsibility.

I hope that this Thanksgiving finds you and your family well. That is one more thing for which we should give thanks, because it is the greatest blessing of all.

Sincerely,
