Service Academy Nominations

August 18, 2013
E-Newsletters

As high school students begin returning to the classroom, many of them will be thinking about their futures. Some that you know may be considering serving our nation in one of the branches of the military.

It's one of the great privileges of my job to be able to recommend a select group of individuals for admission to the United States Service Academies each year. Specifically, I am able to recommend students for the:

  • U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY;
  • U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD;
  • U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY; and
  • U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO.

This year, the deadline for applications is October 18th, and I encourage all young Missourians of the Sixth District to take advantage of this opportunity to further their education while also serving our country.

To be eligible for appointment, individuals must be an American citizen, a legal resident of the Sixth Congressional District of Missouri, and at least 17 years of age, and not more than 23 years of age, on July 1, 2014.

If you know of someone who might be interested in attending one of the academies, please have them contact my Kansas City office at (816) 792-3976 to learn more about the selection process. They can also go to my website, http://graves.house.gov/academy-nominations/, to read more about the individual academies themselves.

I am always humbled and proud to suggest local students for these prestigious appointments, and look forward to recommending a stellar group of candidates again this year.
