An Oath and a Promise
This week I will take the federal oath of office on the floor of the United States House of Representatives. In doing so, I will swear to defend and bear allegiance to the Constitution. I will also affirm my intent to represent the people of the Sixth District to the best of my ability. The ceremony is an act and a pledge I take very seriously.
This new Congress meets at a time when the nation still has not recovered from the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. Many Americans are unemployed and still hurting, which is especially difficult this time of year. My focus will be on policies that will get people back to work.
The extension of the tax relief packages was a much needed start. But there is more to do. We must work to roll back the complex and needless federal regulations that continue to hamper growth. Businesses can't focus on expansion when they are constantly trying to jump through regulatory hurdles and cut through red tape.
The massive levels of federal borrowing and spending must be reined in as well. Right now government is crowding out the private sector. Only private enterprise can create the jobs we need for a full economic recovery.
While there is much to be done, it continues to be a privilege to serve as your Representative to our nation's capital. I look forward to hearing from you and working with you in the coming year.
Sincerely,
