It's Tax Day - do you know where your tax dollars are?
Straight Talk with Sam
For those of you who don't already know, today is Tax Day. It comes every April, without fail. As the saying goes, nothing in life is guaranteed - except death and taxes.
U.S. tax policy is difficult, confusing, and time consuming. Loopholes and special interest deductions were bad enough. Now, Obamacare is making it impossible for even accountants to understand.
The tax code needs to be reinvented. It needs to be shortened and simplified so people can understand what they're paying and where their money is going.
That's what the Fair Tax is all about.
This pro-growth proposal would eliminate the IRS and our tax code as we know it, replacing it with a simple and straightforward national consumption tax. The Fair Tax also allows small businesses to focus on investment, growth, and job creation - not compliance with the IRS.
As another Tax Day passes, House Republicans are working on a new agenda - one that reins in the IRS and allows the American people to keep more of their money.
As part of that promise, we created a task force to deal exclusively with tax reform. We will focus on making the tax code simpler, fairer, and flatter, while adding pro-growth reforms and removing the incentive to shift jobs overseas. As a life-long farmer and former Chairman of the House Small Business Committee, I look forward to bringing my unique perspective to this group.
Small businesses and the American people are unfairly asked to comply with a tax code that is impossible for anyone to understand. Ultimately, I trust you - not the federal government - to decide how to spend your money in the way that's best for your family. That's why I will continue to push for tax simplification as a top national priority.
Sincerely,

Sam Graves
