Defunding Obamacare

E-Newsletters

As I traveled the Sixth Congressional District throughout August, I met with constituents from all walks of life: from farmers in Macon and small business owners in Lee's Summit to teachers in Hamilton and law enforcement officers in Canton. No matter where I stopped, no matter who I was meeting with, one concern weighed on their minds above others: Obamacare.

As I have been saying since 2009, Obamacare is an unmitigated disaster. It's bad for the American people, it threatens middle-class jobs, and it hurts our economy. It places unconstitutional mandates on Americans and is already resulting in a bigger government, but not better care.

Obamacare has had more miscues than the Eagles offense against the Chiefs defense last week. The president has been forced to delay core provisions like the small business exchanges and employer mandate, and just this past week, the Wall Street Journal reported that "the government's software can't reliably determine how much people need to pay for coverage."

Obamacare is more unpopular than ever, with a whopping 68 percent concerned about the impact the law will have on their own personal healthcare according to a September 17th Fox News poll, and 52 percent believing Obamacare will result in increased healthcare costs for themselves and their families, according to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

The healthcare law simply isn't ready for primetime – and never will be. Last week, the House demonstrated leadership in voting to both fund the federal government and remove the country's largest obstacle to job creation and economic growth by defunding Obamacare. It's up to the Senate to move this bill forward now.
