A Blueprint for Responsibility
Straight Talk with Sam
A budget is a fiscal blueprint of the future. It is an outline of one's priorities that tells you what they consider important, and also what they view as unimportant.
Last week, my colleagues and I released the Fiscal Year 2016 House Budget resolution. This legislation immediately repeals Obamacare, balances our budget in less than 10 years without raising taxes, and cuts government waste.
In comparison, President Obama's budget contains an estimated $2 trillion in tax increases over the next decade. What's worse, the president's $4 trillion spending plan would never balance the federal budget, and would leave a deficit of $474 billion for FY 2016 alone.
The House of Representatives' budget will put our country on a path to fiscal solvency, cutting $5.5 trillion in spending and calling for a simpler and fairer tax code. By repealing Obamacare it ensures Americans can choose their own health care options at a price they can afford – not what bureaucrats in Washington demand. Finally, it prioritizes a strong national defense by robustly funding troop resources, training, and compensation in order to fulfill Congress's top responsibility – providing for the common defense.
As the national debt hovers over $18 trillion, it is long past the time to address our spending problems. The House Budget will force the federal government to live within its means while prioritizing our basic constitutional responsibilities.
As your Representative in Congress, I pledge to continue the fight against reckless federal spending, reducing the national debt and minimizing taxes on hardworking Americans.
Sincerely,
Sam Graves
