Graves Statement on Disaster Relief Bill
WASHINGTON D.C. —Representative Sam Graves (MO-06) released the following statement after voting in favor of the disaster relief package which passed the House earlier today:
“Today I voted for disaster relief funding that will provide critical assistance to folks in North Missouri devastated by recent flooding. This relief bill allows the USDA to provide financial help for farmers who lost on-farm stored grain to the flooding—something experienced by many farmers along the Missouri River. That being said, I am not confident this bill will become law. I hope my colleagues on the other side of the aisle will return to the table to pass a stronger disaster relief bill solely focused on helping those in need and ensuring these funds are spent properly.”
The relief package allocated $3 billion to agriculture programs to deal with the recent flooding in the Midwest. The bill also included $310 million to repair damaged flood control projects and $500 million to repair roads damaged in recent flooding.
