It's ILLEGAL

Straight Talk with Sam

The crisis happening on our southern border is weighing on the minds of Americans across the country, and for good reason. Since President Biden took office, there have been over 7 million illegal crossings, with over 302,000 illegal immigrants encountered in December 2023 alone.

That’s absurd. It’s obvious that the open border policies set by President Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas have encouraged illegal immigration at an unprecedented rate. Instead of recognizing the problem and strengthening border security, they’ve welcomed criminals and traffickers into our country with open arms. Simply put, they’re ignoring the law.

The Biden administration fails to realize that this problem can be solved by enforcing the laws we have on the books. Instead they're wasting time and our tax dollars to sue states like Texas that are just trying to do their job for them. I don't know what part of illegal some people in Washington D.C. don't understand. It's illegal. Secretary Mayorkas' failure to enforce our laws isn't just a choice, it's a failure to uphold his oath of office.

After lying to the American public for the past three years about having control of our southern border, Secretary Mayorkas has demonstrated that he will continue ignoring the law. If allowed to remain in office, Secretary Mayorkas will continue to threaten the health and safety of the American people and the sanctitiy of our Constitution. It’s time to hold him accountable.

Though that's not all that needs to be done to fix the crisis at our border. I voted to pass several bills through the House this week to help secure our border. These broadly bipartisan bills would make it a federal offense to evade or flee a U.S. Border Agent or law enforcement official who is assisting U.S. Border Patrol, prohibit members of Palestinian Islamic Jihad or Hamas from being admitted into the United States under any circumstances, and make driving while intoxicated grounds for barring an aliens from admission into the United States or deporting the individual.

These common-sense bills put more tools in the toolbox to strengthen our immigration laws, prosecute illegal immigrants and ensure that we keep our citizens safe.

Enough is enough. It’s time to finish the wall, enforce the laws we have on the books, and secure our border. It’s time to cut the nonsense and get the job done.

Sincerely,

Sam Graves
